Extended description

An epic journey of survival following the most devastating event the earth had sustained since life began on our globe.

The full complement of the United States Los Angeles Class nuclear submarines are assigned to a survival program, headed by Dr. Eli McFadden, to be modified as survival capsules after it was determined that a 45 mile long by 25 mile diameter massive object from outside the solar system would impact in the South Pacific on 18 August, 211 days after it was first observed, traveling at a velocity of 490 thousand miles per hour deep into the mantle of the Earth and over two thousand miles in diameter.

The result will be total annihilation of all life on Earth except, perhaps, the 2,000 people on board the 52 survival capsules.
