Dayven swears that he will never become one of the deceitful, disloyal sorcerers who alter people's true destinies. But then his lord asks Dayven to pretend to be a wizard in order to spy on them, to learn if they’ll be loyal in the approaching war. Dayven’s path used to be so clear – now his friendships, his future, his destiny are shadowed with twists and turns. For the wizards are more dangerous than Dayven ever imagined.
Dayven is happy as a Watcherlad, and badly wants to fail the Wizard Test. If he passes, it means he has the ability to work magic – but he wants to become a Guardian, like his father. Wizards are deceitful and alter men's destinies, tempting them away from their true path. Dayven is horrified when the test reveals that he has the power to become a wizard. But when his lord instructs him to spy on the wizards, to learn if they’ll be loyal in the great battle that will soon be fought, Dayven is given an opportunity to redeem himself, and reclaim his destiny.
Apprenticed to drunken rogue of wizard, Dayven journeys to the enemy city where an army prepares to march. But it seems that the wizards aren't as evil as he thought, there are multiple sides to every story...and Dayven will ultimately be faced with an impossible choice, that will alter not just his own fate, but that of his people as well.
