To the layman, acne scarring is simply an abnormal response to skin damage, and this damage is usually caused by inflammation caused by an acne breakout, and the ineffective means to treat that breakout. Acne is simply a more damaging form of pimple breakouts, where skin tissue is damaged deeper in the dermis. In these instances, deep skin follicle walls are damaged, and die to the location of the skin cells; regeneration of these skin cells is not a quick process. The body however does undertake a regenerative process to heal after the acne breakout is contained, but this regeneration produces a form of collagen tissue that does not imitate the natural skin cells, but is rather a form of a fibrous tissue that is rough in texture, and often deep in nature, which then forms the acne scarring that is so visible.
