Mary learns the Secret Garden has been locked up for over ten years, since the first appearance of zombies known as the Accursed and the Forsaken. At Misselthwaite Manor Mary hears strange moaning at night and thinks it may one of the undead. She investigates and finds Colin, her cousin who was born just after his mother was savagely attacked in her garden. Mary learns the mother died soon after and for ten years Colin had been chained to his bed and experimented on as doctors attempted to find a cure for the spreading infection.
