The caller is Sarah Morton, the chief pilot of a flight department and the only other woman Pearce has had any sort of connection with in his life of self-inflicted solitude. But Pearce knows a Saudi when he sees one and when Sarah tells him that Adam has commandeered the G-IV to make repeated trips to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico so that Adam can meet with men she describes as Mexican gangsters, Pearce makes a call to his friends at the CIA. The CIA has long been wary of a possible alliance between the Mexican underworld and Arab terrorists and now, it seems that day has come to pass.

Before long, Pearce and his CIA compatriots are engaged in a race against time as they try to piece together a puzzle which involves the terrorist alliance, the G-IV, an ocean-going yacht and a platoon-sized unit of men with heavy weapons. It becomes apparent that a devastating strike is planned on Thanksgiving Day and that the President and Vice President may be targets.

Pearce borrows a T-38 supersonic jet trainer, runs the G-IV down and directs air defense fighters to it. Then he gets the biggest shock of all. The ocean going yacht, with the platoon-sized unit of men aboard, is headed for Santa Catalina Island, where the President of the US and President of Mexico are holding a secret meeting to sign a treaty that will unify their efforts to secure the border – a treaty that the terrorist alliance vehemently oppose. Nearly on fumes, Pearce flies the T-38 to Santa Catalina Island, calls in a nearby unit of A-10s to attack the hostile yacht, but realizing the fighters will arrive too late to save the Presidents, he takes matters into his own hands to try and resolve the situation.
