on Dec. 06, 2013 :
It's the sixth book in the David Birkenhead series, and it's twice as long as any of the others -- an appropriate prelude to the series' grand finale. On one level, Commodore rehashes the plot from three books ago -- having to defend a fixed position against impossible odds. Except this time it's war on all levels -- espionage, politics, propaganda. War on the ground. War *under*ground. War in space. It's pointless death and suffering everywhere you turn, until it seems like nothing can possibly be worth the price.
In the end, it's the redemption of one man who makes things just a little better. It has to, because nothing else even comes close. And that's incredibly sad.

I should have reviewed this while the story was still fresh in my mind and I'm doing other potential a purchasers a disservice in that. My memory (several months after reading with many books read since) is not enough for an adequate review. Four stars is what I marked it with in my e-reader database. Presumably, one star knocked from five for needed proofreading.
