Another great read by author Juliann Whicker, House of Slide, Hybrid brings it once again. Packed with action, romance, hybrids, and crazy family drama, I couldn't put my book down. Darianna Sanders finally has her own soul back, but now she has to figure out who she is. Is she still soul mates with Lewis, and will she ever even see him again? Who is the Nether (still my favorite character)? Will she ever learn to control her gifts? Is she ready to take her place in the House of Slide? Read it and find out!

Book 2 in the House of Slide series is, in short, amazing. We come into the story shortly after Dariana has gotten her soul back and becomes "normal" (if there can be a normal in this story) again. She has to learn to live a completely different life than she had been, and I love the character development we get to witness as she deals with everything thrown her way. The continuation of the world we first entered into in Hotblood (book 1) is completely unique from anything you've read before…and the complexity! I am amazed how the author is able to strand everything together to make it into a coherent, engaging story. Delving into the world of the Hotbloods, Cools, Wilds, and Hybrids is an amazing journey. The author's incredible imagination feeds the story and grows it into this fascinating creation.

In Hybrid we are reintroduced to our favorite characters from Hotblood, Dariana and Lewis (oh Lewis, how I love him!), plus we get more of Satan and Grim! Yay and double Yay!

Haven't read Hotblood yet? Go get to it now!! Then come back for this one…

Reading Hybrid is a whole new introduction to Juliann Whicker's paranormal world. The young protagonist, Darianna Sanders, spent the first novel (and the last ten years of her life) separated from her soul, which had been stolen by her brother who died before revealing why.

Dari gave up the strong, lethal Hotblood soul she had been carrying in order to be reunited with her own Cool/Wild hybrid soul. Childlike and pure from its years of disembodiment, it is unclear whether Dari's soul is suited for the dark and dangerous world Dari now inhabits.

As demons continue to encroach the material realm, and Dari's grandfather, head of the House of Slide, makes his move to co-opt Dari and her new soul for his own mysterious purposes, Dari must put aside her fears that she might lose control of the opposing forces that battle inside her in order to accept Lewis as her soulmate.

Is that summary exciting enough? The book is even more so. Cows fly, unstable hybrids play with knives, lust consumes, and death cheated more than once.

As with the first book, Juliann shows her strength in her characters, who fill her unique world with vibrant color. It's hard not to get distracted by Dari's uncles, Grim taking over from Satan in this installment as Most Interesting Relative Ever. Smoke, Snowy, and Ash are back, Ash faced with the choice of oblivion over reality in a heart-breaking sub-plot.

But, for me, the most enthralling character is the one who never shows up, never explains himself. Dari's brother, Devlin, of course. Even as more is revealed about his plans and motivations, he remains ever enigmatic, and maddeningly dead.

If you haven't tried this series, start with Hotblood! It's free to borrow on Amazon. It won't be long before you're running back for Hybrid.

Full Disclosure: Juliann Whicker is my friend and writing Team-Leader. It's thanks to her I finish anything. I can't possibly know how much I'd like the book if I didn't know her. When I find the worm-hole to the alternate universes, I will find Evil Jamie who never knew Evil Juliann and ask her what she thought.

This is the best sequel. I loved it. I started reading and literally couldn’t put it down. I am so tired today because I was up way too late reading, but it was that good. Hybrid proves that it can get better the second time around. I urge everyone to get a copy of Hotblood and then Hybrid and start reading right away. But don’t wait until too late in the evening or you’ll be up all night.

I would give this book 4.5 out of 5 clouds.

Wow! I don’t know how Juliann Whicker did it, but this book is even better than the first. The story is seriously addictive. If you like romance, drama, and action, you will love this book. Juliann approach to the story line is unique, adding to the addictive nature of the book.

This story is the continuation of “Hotblood” and it focus on Dariana. Dariana now have her soul back and she finds herself having to deal with a few new set of problems alongside the old ones. Dari now struggles to find her identity, deal with her brother influences, her feelings for Axel/Lewis, her gifts, not to mention all the people and things that are after her.

I am not a person of long reviews, so to get to the point, I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait for the next one.

Review of Hybrid by Juliann Whicker
House of Slide, #2

If you've been smart and read "Hotblood" (House of Slide #1), you already know that author Juliann Whicker presented us with a marvel of "world-building," an incredibly imagined, community of Hotbloods, Coldbloods, Wilds, and more. I was, and still am, in awe of Ms. Whicker's imaginative capacity, and her ability to weave all of these "species" strands, as it were, into one seamless and utterly delectable tapestry. The characters are richly detailed, and again, so much imagination went into creating them, and the settings, and the plotlines. When I grow up (if that ever happens) I want to be a writer like this!

If you haven't read "Hotblood," please don't wait any longer; and whether you're already a "House of Slide" fan or not, do get "Hybrid." Every page is a marvel. I don't wish to spoil anything about the novel (sigh-there's so much I could say ) so I will just add:

Oh, Ms. Whicker, is Book 2.5 ready yet? [Please-please-please]
