Short description

A short story about an Isle of Lewis chessboard of dubious origin that brings more than the challenge of chess into Dave and Mary’s home. Mary hardly knows what to do as Dave is drawn into game after game with an invisible opponent—one that hates to lose almost as much as Dave does. Their life becomes a nightmare.

Extended description

In this short story, Mary is surprised when her husband, Dave, brings home a chessboard after he’s given up the game. Before long Dave discovers the board is haunted by an invisible opponent who plays chess as well as he does and who hates to lose—as much as he does. When the chessboard spirit turns their life upside down, Dave has to decide just how much winning is worth to him and his family.

This is a brilliant short story, extremely well written and believable characters. Linda I do hope you are going to put your writing talent to good use and write a full length story. Very highly recommended.
