Sarah and her friends are off to Brad's cousin's home in North Dakota to spend their first break from college skiing at a nearby ski resort. Their first day on the snow begins normal, but a sudden winter storm and the disappearance of Brad's uncle turns this day of fun into a horrific nightmare. It's the winter break during her first year of college, and Sarah Davies is excited to leave for a ski trip in North Dakota with her cousin Meagan their friends Brad and Ali. The long bus ride puts Sarah to sleep and she's overtaken by a horrifying nightmare where she's buried alive. Although she tries to ignore it afterwards, she fears that it's a premonition of things to come.

The teens set out for a morning of cross-country skiing with sunny skies and a clear forecast, and although she's still haunted by her dream, Sarah gives in to Meagan's suggestion that everything will be okay. After a day of outdoor fun, they retire to the local resort to wait for Brad's uncle to pick them up. The bright afternoon skies disappear and the weather suddenly changes as a violent storm sets in. They become restless and then receive a distress call from Uncle Hugh and assume he's got car problems at the nearby friend's house where he had spent the day.
