This story, then, begins when a 21 year-old ex-Marine, who has a job helping out at the CIA, comes across top secret information about the CIA and their operations leading up to the showdown forever known as the Cuban Missile Crisis. When his boss, a CIA operative for over 20-years, has him taking classes in Spanish and Russian, he figures something is up. But when he is sent, with his operative boss, to Miami Beach, he realizes that he is being pushed into something very big, something that is both historical and dangerous, and something that he is likely to never forget.

The United States was debating attacking Cuba by air and sea, but President Kennedy instead chose a military blockade; a quarantine of the weapons that they had identified as nuclear missiles. When the U.S. made a demand of Russia to dismantle all of their missile bases in Cuba, they had little hope that it would actually happen. DEF CON 2, one step away from all-out nuclear war, was ordered by President John F. Kennedy, for the first and only time in history.
