An honor student in high school and college, she receives little encouragement from her parents to enter seminary study. Grandma, with whom she is very close, recommends a profession in medicine or law rather than theology.
Parish ministry was never Kathy’s first professional choice. Applications to a variety of institutions are rejected, except for the small rural church in Stonebridge, South Dakota.
As with any new job, there are the usual ups and downs, requiring considerable patience and much faith. During her first year it becomes apparent that some parishioners favor the status quo, while others want change and a forward thrust.
