About Jerry Humphrey

Jerry Wayne Humphrey was born 1 Dec 1946 in rural Alabama. He graduated high school from Austin Academy in Oak Park, Ill in 1967 and was drafted into the Army. After his training he was assigned to the elite 3rd Infantry, better known as the Old Guard at Arlington, Virginia. While there he participated in numerous events and ceremonies including the funeral of Senator Kennedy. He met three presidents and was at the inauguration of one, the departure of another, and the funeral of President Eisenhower. He saw the inside of the White House, read the words of Abraham Lincoln and saw the resting place of many fallen comrades. The things he saw, the historical events he was part of would shape his life forever.

After spending over twenty two years federal service his failing health forced him to retire to his rural Alabama home. There he began writing poems. He has published a book of poems titled From The Heart, a book of his time in the Old Guard titled In the Garden, And A short story book titled The Story Collection. These are available from Wordclay.com at http://www.wordclay.com/BookStore/BookStoreSearchResults They are available as ebooks from smashwords.com. He was inspired to write the collection of short stories by his grandfather and the many stories he heard as a young man growing up. He continues to write poems and short stories and is now working on another book.
