This book comprehensively covers industrial relations within the South Wales Coalfield from the Merthyr Riots at the beginning of the Nineteenth Century right up to and including the 1984/85 miner's strike.
Most of the industrial disputes of that era are included such as; The Chartists, Scotch Cattle, Cambrian Dispute, Cynonb Valley Dispute, Anthracite Dispute, 1921 Lock-out and the 1926 General Strike and Lock-out.
A great part of the book covers the structures of the South Wales Miners Federation and the South Wales Area of the National Union of Mineworkers with a mention for the defunct South Wales Miners Industrial Union.
