I believe I was born to write. Before I could write, I would draw stories. And I'd have to wait until retirement to let the writing begin in earnest.
Raised in a small town in western Wisconsin, not far from the great Mississippi River. As a girl with a vivid imagination and a dream for a better life, I left home against my father’s wishes to attend college. It wasn’t long before I learned that some semesters I could afford college and others I needed to work, but I graduated and continued to study until I received a Master’s in Education.
Lucky enough to be hired as a part time instructor at a technical college, I slowly built my career while my husband commuted to Minneapolis to support a family of six. The hectic years of promoting and teaching Adult Basic Education as well as ferrying my four very active children from one event to another flew by quickly, but I remember them as the best years of my life.
As an instructor for almost thirty years, I taught hundreds of students how to write essays, reports, and research papers. However, my creative juices really began to flow after I left work. Once in the privacy of my own home, I could use my imagination to fill legal tablets with stories and ideas for novels. Some of my story ideas came from conversations with students, colleagues, sisters, and friends.
The stories that tugged at my heart, the stories I would never forget, were those of women who’d suffered from domestic abuse and violence. My first novel, NO LONGER AFRAID, is the fictional account of one such survivor, and the man who is determined to help her heal. And my readers will be rooting for them with every turn of the page. But their story doesn't end there. My characters had become my invisible friends, and like my real friends, talked to me day and night about their dreams, wishes and problems they needed to solve. So book two was born. ENOUGH WITH THE SECRETS continues the story of Claire, the matriarch introduced in book one as someone estranged from the family, returning to seek redemption. Let's just see how far she gets!
