Short description

Social Story for children trying to understand why they have to visit their biological father when they have a Dad at home (step-dad that they call Dad). It can be adapted to the child's particular situation. It has been designed to be printed out so that the parent inserts the names of their family members to make it personal. This would suit families where the child is very young or has autism.

Extended description

This Social Story script tells the story of a 5 year old boy who must visit his biological father for holidays. He has autism and struggles to understand why he has to make the big trip to visit his biological Dad when he has a Dad at home already. He calls his step-father Dad because he has been there since he was a baby. His mother wanted a way to explain to him why his biological father wants to see him. The family decided to keep it as simple for the child to understand; because the child doesn't call his biological father Dad, the story talks about the father as his "friend" who helped his Mummy have a baby.
