I shrugged. “Just admin,” I said. “Nothing special.”
“It’s a good job…” Darren started to say in my defence, but Jake just talked over him, like he wasn’t there anymore.

“Call me Gabby, please,” I stuttered. The way he was talking, I could imagine he was flirting with me. I decided I was misreading his signals. He wouldn’t flirt with me here, with my own husband sitting next to me, would he?
Yet the situation seemed so contrived. Jake was now focusing so entirely on me, fixing me with that hundred-watt stare, that it was hard not to read anything more into it.
