Two months have passed and Elsa is too weak to fight the nightmares. Elsa dreams of a woman that gives birth to a deformed child, and his mother is killed, but in her condition she can’t even identify the place. She finds her child is not the heir of the black wolf, Manuel Villanueva, but instead is her leader’s Abrim Stein child. Raymond’s concern for Elsa grows as she withdraws and he sends a message for help. Inoc Cordova arrives and proves to be the missing piece of Elsa’s puzzle. When jealous Beatrice assaults Inoc, Wayne is called, he is a man used to getting his way like all the Soul Warriors. David and the men hire bodyguards for Elsa’s clan, Raymond and his men are assigned to the hunters. Manuel has remained Elsa’s prisoner. Patricia’s death squads try to force Manuel out so Patricia can kill him to collect the wealth of his late uncle. Elsa puts Patricia in play, the only way to stop the evil woman’s search for Manuel. The nightmares continue and many women and children disappear from the streets of Texas and Mexico. Elsa’s desperation leads her to, Antonio De Madrid, leader of the spider clan. Through her exposure with Antonio she comes to know the people she trusts most are liars. Abrim arranges to get captured by the spider clan. Antonio’s ransom is her. Elsa returns to Abrim’s favorite home and a village that she named, Neutal. She dreams of the clinic and worries how she will come to this place in the time of waking. They arrive in Neutal, in her weakened condition she appears to Antonio. He doesn’t know her and when a strange melody plays he tries to kill her. Abrim comes to the rescue and gives her the items from his safe. Elsa discovers she is the new war leader of the Fighters. Elsa brings them to a Spider shelter where the dead come to haunt them and Elsa is lead through the mountain and finds the location of the clinic. She pays the ransom and the fighters disobey a direct order. Elsa isolates herself and Antonio comes and the music plays and he tries to drown her. Raymond rescues her and he calls for Anga, for mother and she answers in a most unusual way. Elsa is drawn to a past where Antonio speaks of his plans to create a group of telepaths that would be his children, but father’s plans and Antonio’s are different and when she touches father’s face his soul makes her bleed. Antonio kidnaps the children. Elsa takes the family down into the mountain. Mano returns to Anga for help and instead finds the old woman needs him. While in the mountain Elsa finds a mansion, a dark place that knows her name, a haunted house with twelve ghosts children. She buys the house away from Antonio. The strain continues between her and Lettie and Isabella. Fate twists his hand and Elsa becomes the Queen of the dead, she inherits Isabella’s ghosts. Elsa delivers the ransom but Antonio isn’t there. Anga sends Mano to haunt Elsa. Antonio’s minion comes to Elsa, he is another of her orphans, Ivan Cruz. Elsa announces the two new leaders to take her old position, Adam Maldano and Samuel Trevino Stein. As Elsa brings them out of the mountain she is attacked, by two swarms, one of spiders, one of snakes and she consumes the threat, and hides the damage the magical creatures cause. She confronts Antonio his fate is delivered, the music dies, his final words cut her to the soul. She enters the house of death and truth to rescue her children and gives them to Abrim. She rises above the mansion and drops to a stone ridge to bleed among the rocks, to be rescued by the dead.
