We look at our personal and economic reasons for making this change and our strategies for saving enough to leave and to retire early. We share our adventures while searching for land, immigrating to Canada, and building a unique log home. The book shows how we started and tend a large garden with a 60 year old tractor and we teach our methods and recipes to add value to the products we grow. We now live very well, on less than 25% of our former income, using 10% of our previous carbon footprint.
The book includes some hilarious commentary on the things that were not so perfect. Things like traveling 1200 miles cross-country only to pull into our driveway and bury the packed U-Haul up to the axle, in the middle of no-where’s ville. Living with black flies or better known as Steven King’s “Langoliers” by my wife. Of course we include all the delightful issues associated with log homes and long abandoned homesteads.
