Historic Fort Loudoun

The colony of South Carolina built Fort Loudoun in 1756 at the height of the French and Indian War. Built to foster relations with the Cherokee, the fort helped to secure the Overhill towns from French involvement. In 1760 the Cherokee besieged and captured the fort when the relationship soured, making Fort Loudoun the opening act in the Anglo Cherokee War of 1760-1762. More

About Fort Loudoun Association

The Fort Loudoun Association is the friends group for Fort Loudoun State Historic Area and as such is devoted to the restoration and operation of historic Fort Loudoun. The Organization was created by the Tennessee State Legislature in 1933 and operated Fort Loudoun independently until 1978 when Fort Loudoun became part of Tennessee’s State Park system.
