Short description

Working the night shift to get away from a troubled home, Jamie endures the motley crew, aimlessly drifting along until Derrik, a mysterious new co-worker, arrives and transforms his life. Jamie finds himself falling for Derrik, but the older man harbors a secret that threatens to come between them.

Extended description

To escape a troubled home, Jamie works the night shift at a department store with a rag-tag group of punks, war veterans, and bickering couples. He's unsure what direction he wants to take in life until a mysterious new co-worker arrives.

With his long ponytail, faint accent, and quiet manner, Derrik manages to disturb or fascinate everyone, not just one pint-sized Southern boy who wants to escape from his boring life.

Jamie finds himself falling for Derrik, but the older man harbors a secret that threatens to come between them.

A well-written story with some finely drawn portraits in an interesting setting.

Great story. I loved the writing and the characters, finished the book in just a few hours.
I loved how gentile Derrik is and some of the total teenage angst that Jamie showed.
I found it to be a very sweet read.
Finished it at 2 in the morning because I could not put it down :)

Night Shift, Red Haircrow

I truly enjoyed this read, a simple well written romance that moved smoothly. As a short story the premise was clear, as the characters, Jamie and Derrick conveyed a natural contemporary plot. However the intrigue is in Derrick’s dodging anything that reveals too much of his past. All the characters were interesting; even Arnold who plays a very minor role, but left an impression on me. Overall an engaging read that should be shared.
