John has a fabulous way of stating the important-but-not-immediately-obvious factors that make for successful Leadership. It’s like he holds-up a mirror and encourages people to be honest with themselves. When you read John’s reflections in that mirror you might not like what you see, but he does provide every opportunity for change. If you don’t want to become a better Leader and a better person – don’t read this book.

John’s passion for creating a more reflective and connected work world is a breath of fresh air in the frenetic pace that many of us experience at work and at home. His meaningful messages inspire introspection which allows people to take meaningful action. Read John’s wisdom to consider how to live a more “response able” and fulfilling life!

I've always enjoyed listening to John's stories when visiting with him in person, so it comes as no surprise that I found his collection of essays inspiring and actionable. There are lots of takeaways, but one in particular spoke to me: "Let go of your need for control. Manage as though you were trying to work your way out of your job. Give away all of your skills to your direct reports..." I also felt the power in his ongoing message of spreading positive storytelling in the workplace.

A must read.

These essays point out how seemingly complex organizational issues can often be addressed with simple acts of self awareness, integrity, and empathy. John's wisdom shines through them all.

John has a way with words that makes the complex easy to understand. I have been reading John's "1 Pagers" for years and this book should be on every manager's E Reader.
