(Short Story) When the first mate of the 19th-century lumber schooner SANTIANNA finds his captain and business partner brutally murdered, he decides that he must bring the ship into port as soon as possible. However, he quickly discovers that he must do so before the captain's killer is able carry out his plan to murder everyone aboard and sink SANTIANNA. In the process, the first mate learns a valuable lesson: few crimes prove to be as senseless and as unjust as they at first appear.
