Queensland, March 1911.
Twelve year old Felicity accompanies her uncle Professor Portland and his renewable energy machine to Townsville aboard S.S. Yongala.

Fearing that the ‘smoke engine’ will put them out of business, the Queensland Coal Board send war veteran, Corben Plath, to kill the Professor and destroy the machine.

Onboard Yongala, Plath strikes an innocent friendship with Felicity, not realizing that she is the niece of the man he is sent to kill.

As Yongala steams into heavy weather Plath learns that are armed men onboard and, as the tension rises, he finds that his own salvation depends on Felicity surviving the storm.
