Conrad Jones, Biography. /Conrad Jones is a 47-year-old Author, originally from a sleepy green-belt called Tarbock Green, which is situated on the outskirts of Liverpool. He went to Newborough preparatory school before passing an entrance exam into Liverpool College where he was a border and a day pupil before finishing school at Prescott Comprehensive.
His family relocated to the Welsh port, Holyhead on the Island of Anglesey the year he left school and bought a small taxi company. Conrad moved with them and worked in a number of trades including kitchen assistant, construction of children's adventure playgrounds and a spell hairdressing before branching out to run his own business as a market trader. He spent a number of years in and around North Wales before starting his career as a trainee manger with McDonalds Restaurants in 1989. He worked in management at McDonalds Restaurants Ltd from 1989-2002, working his way up to Business Consultant (area manager) working in the corporate and franchised departments.
On March 23rd 1993 he was managing the Restaurant in Warrington`s Bridge St when two Irish Republican Army bombs exploded directly outside the store, resulting in the death of two young boys and many casualties. Along with hundreds of other people there that day Conrad was deeply affected by the attack, which led to a long-term interest in the motivation and mind set of criminal gangs. He links this experience with the early desire to write books on the subject. His early novels follow the adventures of an elite counter terrorist unit, The Terrorist Task Force, and their enigmatic leader, John Tankersley, or `Tank` although his later books follow Detective Alec Ramsey and the Major Investigation Team. His novels are set in the North West and North Wales.
In 2007, he set off on an 11-week tour of the USA. The Day before he boarded the plane, Madeleine Mcann disappeared and all through the holiday he followed the American news reports which had little information about her. He didn't realise it at the time, but the terrible kidnap would inspire, The Child Taker years later. During the trip, he received news that his house had been burgled and his work van and equipment stolen. That summer was the year when York and Tewksbury were flooded by a deluge and insurance companies were swamped with claims. They informed him that they couldn't do anything for weeks and that returning home would be a wasted journey. Rendered unemployed on a beach in Clearwater, Florida, he decided to begin his first book, Soft Target. He never stopped writing after that.
He has reached over 200,000 downloads of his thriller novels and has had 7 books on the top 100 kindle charts, 3 number ones and an Amazon clicks Reader's book of the month award. Recently he has 8 stand alone novels and a horror thriller, Nine Angels and the biographies of three time world champion Russ Williams (Undisputed) and extraordinary lady, Debby Hughes (Lapping it Up).
I am currently working with a good literary agent who has acquired a three book deal with Thames River Press. The novels include the extended version of the bestselling thriller, The Child Taker, Criminal Revenge (formally Slow Burn) and new book, Criminally Insane. The trilogy should be published digitally and in paperback in October 2012.
I have written and published 9 thriller novels, a vampire horror novella, Nine Angels and 2 biographies, Lapping it Up and Undisputed.
Nine Angels reached number 2 in the kindle horror charts and inspired the full length novel, A Child for the Devil, which is currently being read by a number of publishers for consideration.
As of September 2012, I am working on a new Alec Ramsay novel, The Child Witness, which I hope to pass to my agent by the end of November. Following the completion of that novel, I intend to write a follow up to A Child for the Devil and then a new 'Tank' novel called Criminal Justice. Both should be completed before summer 2013.
In May 2012, I started having dizzy spells. They began when I lay down or sat up and then progressed to affecting me when I was upright too. Being the typical, 'ignore it until it goes away' type, I said nothing to anyone until I finally tipped up and didn't know what day it was. I suddenly felt like I had come off the waltzers and my coordination vanished. I was driving my friend's cherished VW camper van when it hit me the worst and disorientated, I forgot how to drive! The receptionist at the Accident and Emergency department must have thought that I was drunk. I couldn't give my details as I didn't know them. People knock the NHS but within twenty minutes of being admitted I had been wired up to every gadget possible and was rushed into a CT scanner. The diagnosis is either a strangled artery in my spine (neck) or vertigo. Medication has worked for now and the world has stopped spinning and my worst fear, not being able to write, was unfounded. Sometimes we take our brain for granted and only when it is threatened do we realise how precious it is! So as it stands, I am going to finish all those books.
All of the previously published kindle thriller novels became best sellers in February 2011 because of the Kindle explosion. I now have well over 150,000 downloads so far. I am extremely excited at being published by a traditional publisher and a three book deal as the first offering is more than any author could dream of. There is a sense of excitement tinged with anxiety as many better writers have fallen flat in the paperback world. Fingers crossed that with the right marketing, word of mouth and a lot of luck, my novels will succeed. Making a living from the work that I love so much is a gift that I appreciate very much. I am a lucky man.
