In 1962, six weeks shy of turning eight-years-old, Janrae Frank had polio. While she was hospitalized, her grandmother brought her a special present: a very expensive pen and pencil set, and presented it with the admonition to "Whip them with a pencil."
It was living up to that admonition that led her to become a writer, and in 1979 her first published work, "Wolves of Nakesht," appeared in the pages of Amazons! edited by Jessica Amanda Salmonson (DAW books). In the 1980s, with a small child to raise, Janrae moved into journalism and freelance writing. Her pieces appeared in Cinefantastique, Movieline, Black Belt, the Washington Post, and the LA Times, among others.
She had twenty novels published in ebook by Renaissance Ebooks between 2003 and 2008. They are in the process of being re-issued by Daverana Enterprises and Smashwords.
