About Melissa Banczak

I was a literary agent, with Otitis Media Literary in Minneapolis, MN for five years. Yeah, my boss had a great sense of humor. He retired and the agency closed in 2000.

I've been a filmmaker since 2004. My first short, Lilah & the Alien, won a A.C.E award for acting at the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival that same year. I'd like to think my writing had something to do with that. I've written and/or produced docs, shorts, pilots, PSA's, a critcally acclaimed webseries, and the feature film, Finley Wade. It's now available as a webseries on

In April of 2012, I moved from Tucson, AZ to Key West, Florida. Island life has made me lazy. When I'm not biking down to Schooner Wharf Bar for happy hour, I'm at Sippin Cafe or down at the library knocking out some words, waiting on happy hour.

I was swept away by the depth of characters in this screenplay! Everyone is so believable—they all have their own lives, and this story just happens to focus on shared experiences between them. I think I’m in love with Zelda—what a fun and quirky character! Twists, turns, people not doing what you expect of them… It’s a quirky mystery with a handful of great characters and a pleasant read. I can’t wait to see the film!

Very Cool. Cool names. Cool Plot. This is how real people talk....and how a real reader stays interested. Stylized without being pretentious...surprises around the corners.....Ms. Banczak had written a script as cool as it's title. Evocative, suspenseful....and yes, heartfelt.....this is a journey that is real with elements of the unreal. And the two together make for a fantastic script....well done:)
