There is no particular education requirements to be a transportation broker. Successful brokers have come from all backgrounds and all walks of life, ranging from high school dropouts to the Harvard M.B.A. Integrity and tenacity are far more important than where you came from or what school you went to.
Some commodities brokered require you to have no authority what-so-ever. Some commodities moving in interstate commerce, require authority and the same commodity moving in intrastate commerce, may require no additional authority.
There are three different ways you can get involved in brokering. Exempt commodities, regulated commodities, and household goods or all three at the same time. And, you can decide whether you are going to broker intrastate or interstate transportation. You can also decide whether you are going to be an employee of a brokerage, obtain your own brokerage authority, or be an agent for a transportation brokerage.
You can see that your choices are multiple. And, we are not done yet. Then you can decide to add "Transportation Consultant" to your titles. The best job in transportation today is being able to work part time, full time, at Starbucks, at Hilton Head, SC, or Diamond Head, HI.
