You Only Die Twice
Only one thing scares FBI Agent Andy Knight more than not catching a serial killer—becoming one, just like her father. Romantic mystery thriller meets Mother Goose, with a touch of The Brothers Grimm and Lord Byron—where the heroes are poetic, tortured, and flawed, and the serial killers deliciously clever and wickedly funny. Once upon a time…was never so full of murder, madness, or mayhem. More
Into the future...
Like a magnet, gripping at iron shavings, the sketch pad grabbed her attention. Also like a magnet, she was unable to resist the attraction. Merely touching it made her feel closer to Love.
Forlani grinned at the intricate drawings of Raul, Hector, and Lydia. Her brother was right. The special agent’s talent was obvious. Chandler even managed to peek at some larger pieces in the attic. He was still trying to convince Knight to agree to a show at his gallery, but with no success. Before looking at the next drawing, Forlani’s mind returned to the motel. This was the moment when her client had nervously snatched the pad away. Claire turned the page and gasped in wonder, as she stared at herself. She was asleep in the hotel bed.
The next sketch brilliantly captured their interaction at Chang’s, when Claire slapped her kidnapper. Quickly, she scanned the rest. They were all sketches of her…with Chandler with Laura with her parents.Forlani blushed when she saw herself wearing the red dress that Norton designed. Ultimately, her dark eyes noted the title of the intricate drawing, “She Walks in Beauty.”
“Counselor.” The word offered surprise mingled with concern. The federal agent didn’t expect to find her there.
Claire faced her. “You didn’t want me to see these?”
“Those? Not my best work. Just something to pass the time,” she hedged, not wanting to reveal anything more.
No matter, Forlani knew the truth, or thought she knew. Now, she had to be sure. The lump in her throat grew to baseball size as fumbling fingers untied her belt. Without relinquishing Knight’s eyes, she let the robe fall to the floor.
A short synopsis...
According to Crazy Cindy, cloaked demons haunt the streets of LA after dark and make homeless men disappear. Deep undercover as a bum, FBI agent Andy Knight, who wears pain like a suit of armor, discovers the men didn’t evaporate into thin air, they relocated…to the morgue. After putting too many puzzle pieces together, pieces that connect to the rich, the powerful, and the psychopathically twisted, the rogue agent is framed for the murder of a dirty cop. Knowing any number of monsters she sent to prison would love to slit her throat, and determined to solve the case, which includes the brutal murder of her former partner, Knight takes a hostage and escapes. No typical hostage, defense attorney Claire Forlani refuses to leave, when her captor releases her. Forlani “sees” things like the fact that her client is innocent, like the fact that many people, possibly thousands, will die unless those responsible are stopped. On the run, they must face inner demons…and stay alive, long enough to follow the clues, all the while racing toward an explosive denouement.
