An action packed story that had me on the edge of my seat. Summer Demure is normally a police woman to be reckoned with, but when she's blindfolded, attacked and raped, she suffers from post traumatic stress syndrome and loses her confidence. To make matters worse, she finds out she's pregnant and worries the baby could be the rapist's. Confused and annoyed at her husband for not being able to save her from the attack, she leaves him until she figures out whet to do.
She never saw the man that raped her, but when her small daughter is kidnapped for a ransom, she suspects it's someone involved in her attack. Summer and her husband decide to give the kidnapper the money, but when her husband gets shot, she grabs her gun and takes off in her car. Desperate to rescue her child, and pay the kidnapper back for shooting her husband, Summer is also determined to find out if the criminal was involved in her own kidnapping and attack.
There are many male characters in this story, so your left guessing who the perpetrator is. There's a lot of violence in this story, but I'm sure police go through events such as these every day, so to me the scenes were believable.
The second half of the story picked up speed and had me reading not stop right through the night. I just had to find out who the kidnapper was. And though I guessed it was one character, I changed my mind many times towards the end. The scenes had me right in there with Summer. I felt her physical pain, and the horrific fear for her daughter's life. Though all the males in this story were strong and fiery, I particularly liked the husband. His character wasn't like your average macho male. He was different. I highly recommend this story and I look forward to reading more from Wade Faubert.
