Jade

Jade remembers her childhood days in Singapore during the 1960s. The third daughter in a family of eight girls, she tells of the difficulties faced by her Ma as she struggles to bring up her girls. Jade's anecdotes of life in her primary school compels us to empathize with her fear and rejection, and rejoice with her achievements. The book concludes with a narrative of a mother's sacrificial love.

About Belinda Ong

I have always wanted to write "When I've retired from the workforce" I told myself. I hadn't known that I was forced to bring forward my planned retirement date because of illness.

Five years after my 'forced' retirement, I was still unwell, but improved to the extent that I was able to put words into computer.

Confucius once said that "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

In May 2013, I took that single step by publishing my first book, "Jade". This short historical fiction is set in Singapore during the 1960s. The book contains narratives of events seen through the eyes of a child, and told with the simplicity of a child's voice.

I have started to write my second book. It is a historical fiction set in Singapore in the 1970s. It tells the story of a remarkable woman tho fled persecution and hardship to seek a better life in Singapore. Stay tuned!
