Author Edward C. Patterson has done more than provide a "how to" guide for formatting self-published or independently published books with this work. He's also provided one of the finest primers I've ever seen on editing a novel (including pitfalls to avoid), with splendid examples.

This is the kind of book that all authors can use, regardless of how long they've plied their trade. Chock full of useful information, and highly recommended!

Wow! For the price of the book and the amount of valuable information inside: Wow! This is great stuff. A worthy rival of "Uncle Stevie's" "On Writing" but with an Indie-Publishing twist. The only gripe, and let me emphasize, personal gripe that I have is that the instructional part was not quite as engaging. My mind started wandering on some of the technical talk. It was like tenth grade English class early in the morning after playing video games the night before. But that personal issue aside, this book was a joy. If you are an independent author, or if you are considering becoming one, do yourself a favor. Take out the little plastic card. This will be one of the best investments you'll ever make.

Simply the best. If you want to find out how to be an Indie publisher this is the book that can show you the simple and easy way to do it. Written by a pro with many self published books under his belt, Edward Paterson shows you how to get it done. Unbelievably cheap for the massive amount of valuable information and insight it provides.

Edward Patterson writes a concise and to the point guide to self-publishing. Wish I had read it before I recently published my first thriller novel. It would have saved me lots of heartache and time. Highly recommended for newbie writers and even established ones who might be considering jumpoing into the world of independent self-publishing. It is the future of book publishing with the ebook revolution. The traditional publishers just don't get it.

Patterson's content is so well organized and his tone so humanistic, that I breezed through his book in two evenings. Some of the typographical errors were a bit distracting, though, especially appearing in a section on proofreading manuscripts. The irony is that any spell-checking mechanism would not have caught the majority of those typos. I *do* highly recommend this book for the following reasons: the solid content (from expert guidelines to generous examples from Patterson's own oeuvre), the author's humorous overtones, and the supportive passages that offer encouragement and tough love to all of us Indie Authors.

A must-read for all writers, of any caliber and experience.

I've learned truly unimaginable things from this book, from the obvious lead in of the business approach to publishing, as well as the less obvious yet perhaps more valuable advice on writing skills and tricks for any writer to develop.

Thankyou, Mr. Patterson, for this wonderfully inspiring insight. It has prompted me to look for more of your work, and not only in the area of non-fiction.

I am new to the world of indie publishing and this really is an invaluable book. I'm not going to repeat the well-deserved plaudits already expressed in reviews, except to say that I agree with them. Many thanks, author, for a well written, well designed, and very useful book!

Great advice and step by step instructions for getting a book published without going through traditional publishers' gatekeepers. Edward C. Patterson gives invaluable tips for determining whether a book is actually ready to publish, then he tells exactly how to get the manuscript formatted for ebook and POD. The second half of the book is filled with writing tips that prospective authors can use to polish their work before publishing.
You can't go wrong with this book. Buy it today and get your manuscript in print in a matter of weeks, not years.

While the contents are very comprehensive time has moved on from the date of publication. The emergence of the epub standard as the leading global format (used by Sony Reader) is not really covered. Otherwise it is an excellent overview of what the indie author must overcome to free himself/herself from the clutches of the traditional publishers. Well done!

Before making the leap into the POD/self-published world, read this book. Patterson walks you through the process using his own experiences and gives a lot of useful advice. You might still go another way, but at least you won't be stumbling in the dark.

An excellent and wonderful written and helpful book for anyone who is even considering getting into the self-published world. Mr. Patterson gives an easy to follow guide that any author or person thinking of getting into the field should get this book. Get it, read it, memorize it! It will save so many headaches in the future.

I recently paid $15 for a paperback book on publishing for Amazon, and it's not half as useful as Mr. Patterson's guide. If I had had his guide when I was self-publishing my first book, it would have saved an enormous amount of weeping and wailing. He covers all bases in the guide: writing and editing; publishing; and marketing, and he covers these areas thoroughly with simple step-by-step instructions. If you're thinking about self-publishing, run - don't walk - and download this book.

This is an incredibly helpful book for both novices indie-publishers as well as for the more experienced ones. Around every corner you will find a helpful little tip, an insightful observation from Patterson's own experience, or a cool link to a helpful website you may not have known before.

Whether you're a first-time indie publisher or a writer with a number of titles under your belt, if you want to expand your exposure and bring your writing to the masses, you owe it to yourself to check out this book.

I didn't really know of the term "Indie Author", until reading this (I always thought it meant exactly the same thing as being "Self-Published", lol).

I've already gone through the whole PDF uploading onto CreateSpace (for print), as well as uploading a file onto Kindle -- if you're a newbie to all that kind of stuff, Mr. Patterson will take you through the steps in an engaging, lively writing style.

I, personally, shall have to work on the networking part [including getting onto author/reader forums, and getting some purchases/rankings/reviews going on Amazon (eventually!)].

Having been on both sides of the publishing fence, I would recommend this book to anyone who's contemplating pursuit of publication. Edward Patterson writes with intelligence, humor and considerable knowledge of the industry. This is a must read for all authors, the aspiring and the already published.
