People have called me shiftless, perhaps because my careers have included electrical engineer in the aerospace industry, history professor, home builder, solar designer, alternative energy consultant, and technical writer/instructional designer. My writing compulsion began about 20 years ago. Other men golf, fish, carouse, watch tv sports. I write. At last count, 20 novels, 4 short story collections, and a play lurk, mostly unread, on my hard drive. I've not tried to publish anything except the story collections, and those only locally as Christmas gifts. If all goes well, I hope to publish most of my collected writing on Smashwords in the next year or two.

Hitch Hikers is a motley collection of human-interest stories about a mostly motley collection of people of all shapes, ethnicities, and sizes. (Well, not "all". I think there is disproportion of middle-aged, white, bald, fat men.) There is usually an O. Henry twist, but don't count on it. I spent an hour or two happily engrossed, my attention diverted from my usual mundane activities (such as watering the cats and doing chin-ups.) Having to pay $1.99 to finish the book was an incentive to do so, if I needed one, which I did not. (I have a thing against prices ending in "99" incidentally, but I think research has shown that people are more likely to go for such a price than one that is a penny higher. Go figure. I price my own books at an even $2.00, but that's just me lashing out at the system.) I encourage you to enjoy these fine, imaginative, stories. It doesn't even have to be a rainy afternoon.
