The Siege of Markethaven: A Tale of Old

A savage horde musters before the crumbling walls of a complacent town. Despair spirals towards hell until the arrival of a young stranger sparks hope in the ordinary townsfolk. Heroism, tragedy and realism mingle in a homage to epic poems such as Beowulf, but written in a modern style as it attempts to bring this form of storytelling to those who 'don't do poetry' as well as to those who do.

About Andy Livingstone

I have too many ideas bubbling inside me and too much of an urge to tell stories that it is impossible for me not to write... in the time allowed after helping my wonderful children to follow their dreams and talents and doing everything in my power to bring happiness to my beautiful wife. And work: after 20 years as a newspaper journalist I am now a press officer for a council - still writing, just (despite what some say!) fact, not fiction.

Currently available as an ebook is my attempt to bring the narrative poem to a 20th century readership through my mediaeval fantasy, The Siege of Markethaven.

I am also halfway through the second draft of the novel that sparked the idea of the poem, and I have previously had four children's books published (in print form).

Outside the world of books, I have spent my life to date being educated in fate's ups and downs, triumphs and disasters and joy and misery by Motherwell FC.

Oh, and one other snippet of trivia: lines from three very different songs helped with the inspiration for the poem, and I have expressed my gratitude by referring to those lines within the poem... but it's up to the readers to spot them for themselves.
