When I started reading "Deathless" and discovered it was fantasy and not only that but -- well, I won't spoil it by elaborating -- I was disappointed but, boy, am I glad I kept on reading. By the last page I was in tears and desperately wanted the tale to go on...and on...and on. It has never quite left my mind in the well over a year since, and when I wanted to re-read but couldn't think of either title or author, I was sad. Then I found it again!
For me, at least, this is a profoundly touching story, and moreover it cured my intransigent dislike of fantasy. It's that fairly rare thing, a can't-put-downer with characters I came to love like real friends.

4.5 stars, easily. This novella was an amazing read. Let me say that flat out. I loved the characters and they were well written for the legnth of the piece. Ivan was a personal favorite of mine just with the way he reacted to the world around him, especially as it continually went to more and more bizzare places. I really didn't know what to expect from this book when I initially got it but I was more than impressed. The editing is well done, the writing is superb, and the story itself is very well planned out and executed.
The only hitch I found in the whole story, and I had to wrack my brain for it, is that Ivan talks about how exhausted he is a number of times in the story. Be it how his sides hurt, or how he will pay for it when it is all over, or how he would work out if he survived the encounter, it's mentioned a lot for such a short read. But as I mentioned, I had to actually activly think of something that bothered me.
If you are looking for a good piece to read, furry or not, pick this up. I mean it. Electronic from Smashwords like I did, or in paper form, it's worth it. Hell, I'll be getting the paper version at the next con I go to even though I have the electronic one. It was that enjoyable!

This is a wonderful novella. It intertwines Russian folk lore and myths into the life of an ordinary foreign exchange student. You really get to know the main character, Ivan, and see him develop and grow as he struggles through his ordeals and watch the relationships formed from the people he meets unfold as he combats deadly monsters. Plus Ivan is a buff fluffy snow leapord who has a Russian accent, what more do you need?
I would really love to see a sequal to this or see this go from novella to novel.

Ivan learns that an ancient relic that his father entrusted him to take care of, is putting his friends and his life in danger. This book starts slow, but quickly ramps up the tension and action, keeping the reader hooked all the way to the end.
This is a must read, get it, you'll love it!
