Short description
Documentary Fiction, set within the background of Reagan's War on Communism in Central America, a young U.S. Foreign Service Officer becomes enmeshed in the irregular financing of that War through drug sales. Tbe background has now been proven, the story told is fiction but based on the lives of real people the author knew and his own experiences in Guatemala, Peru and the Cayman Islands.
Movin' Money is Documentary Fiction. It is written as a memoir by someone who did indeed move millions of dollars around Latin America to help finance President Reagan's War on Communism. Written in a narrative non-fiction style, the book is based on extensive research as well as the author's personal experiences. While the main characters are creations based on people close to his own life who choose to remain anonymous, the backdrop names names, dates, agencies, armies, Presidents and dictators, as revealed in public documents available to anyone who wishes to read them. For those who consider President Ronald Reagan some kind of God, this book is not for you, as it talks freely of the Mayan Genocide carried out by his campaign contributors in Guatemala, as well as the massive amounts of money raised through the sale of drugs to America as well as arms to Iran. This is not an attack on President Reagan; like any powerful man running a powerful government, things happened about which he may or may not have had a direct connection. The fact is that they did happen, and they form the backdrop for this story of one man, his family and friends who during the War on Communism in Central America moved vast amounts of cash money from Peru to Panama to Grand Cayman, money which then went to fund secret wars and dictatorial murder which resulted in a quarter million dead bodies, most of them Mayan peasants in an area smaller than Texas. Communists all, of course, or on their way to becoming so. After all, they were simple people and illiterate, so easily swayed by "outside influences." That genocide was not publicized in the United States, but the rest of the world knew about it. Just like the "secret" war against Nicaragua carried out against direct Congressional legislation by a government which knew better than Congress. The America people remember small parts of the circus that was the Iran-Contra hearings. We don't much remember the actual trials later, nor that all of those convicted were later pardoned.
Movin' Money begins at the beginning, telling the personal stories of some of those involved during those years, those who actually moved the cash money needed to fight secret wars, where revolutionaries, dictators, military governments and "freedom fighters" don't take checks.

If you are even remotely familiar with the US "unconventional" funding of WWIII in Central American, you will delight in the story that gives a glimpse into that world. If you know little or nothing about it, prepare to be shocked.
In addition to the real world events that sweep you through the novel, the characters are vivid, particularly Neil. Neil struggles with the concepts of God, Grace and Love throughout the story in a personal and touching way.
I am looking forward to part two!

SHOULD BE A MOVIE!!
Fabulous historical fiction book which keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Felt like I was leaning the real, behind the scenes story and was entertained while doing it. A must read!!

FANTASTIC READ, A REAL EYE-OPENER!!!
During those years I was young and really didn't understand what was going on; this book was a real "A-ha moment;" and gave me insight as to the history behind this "war" and the misleading quagmire of information given to us through the regular media.
Highly recommended to all who have an interest in this topic!
