The Floor of the World
This adventure novel retrieves one of the hoariest old plots in science fiction and makes it fresh again with updated physics and likable characters. It has two wisecracking young men, two plucky girls, two races of aliens, two odd planets and much too much more: physics, religion, dishwashing, gospel music and of course, great whacking gobs of exposition. Science-minded readers may like it. More
There can't really be an alien planet with natives who look exactly like humans, but two young scientists are spirited away to the planet Brythe, which is just that place. There can't be any place in the universe where the laws of physics are different, except (apparently) on Brythe. On a bizarre alien planet, a fellow shouldn't have to get a job washing dishes, but a fellow's got to eat. And as the two learn more about their new world, they come to realize exactly how much trouble they, and everyone on Brythe, are really in.
