Nelson Peñaherrera Castillo (Lima, Peru, 1976) is a journalist, publisher, producer and media advisor graduated from University of Piura’s School of Communication in Piura.
Although he wrote and published his first story in 1986, his job on media begun on 1993 at Radio san Pedro Chanel and Radio Nuevo Norte (both in Sullana, Peru), where he became a news director on 1998-99.
Meanwhile he was one of his university’s Radio Laboratory hosts.
He also worked as a supervising producer at Radio estación Latina in Chepén, Peru(1998) until he got involved with Fe y Alegría 48 (Tambogrande, Peru) on 1999-ending.
At the same time, he launched his most recognized brand, FACTORTIERRA.NET (then FactorTierra, October 2000). From it, he covered development and environment issues. Because of this experience, he contributed to Guarango Film and Video’s awarded “Choropampa – The Price of Gold” (2002) and “Tambogrande – Mangoes, Mining, Murder” (2006) documentaries. He also was Michael Watts’ “Laguna Negra” documentary field producer (2009).
On 2011, he led the crew honored with Peru’s environmental Citizenship National Award to the best Media Campaign for exposing worldwide the community of Malingas, Piura. The award was granted by the Ministry of Environment and Catholic University of Peru (PUCP in Spanish).
Because of one of his coverages for this website, he was featured on a History Channel Latin America documentary series (2013).
He contributed as a citizen reporter to Radio Canada International Latin America Section. He also contributes often elregionalpiura.com.pe and Radio Cutivalú (Piura, Peru).
Since 2012, he offers conferences based on his job experience, and currently about his new challenge as an author.
