I am Ella Jo Street, born in England in 1966.
My Latest Project
My latest project is writing children's fiction about a witch called Gwubbins. I wanted to write stories that I would have enjoyed reading as a child, and a witch who makes mistakes and embarks upon adventures seems to be my taste!
I have enjoyed creating the characters and honing the story-telling skills that even simple children's tales require. Three stories are now available, and I am presently working on another.
I am delighted to collaborate with illustrator Mary Lou Sprinstead who has supplied the artwork for the e book cover pages.
A gallery has been set up on line for children to send in their pictures relating to the Gwubbins stories. More details about the Gwubbins project can be found on my very own Gwubbins website - see below for address.
About Ella Jo
I was born a free spirit and for many years explored the world. I began practising Tarot in my late twenties. In 1996 I travelled to India and read Tarot on the Goan beaches.
Returning on two more occasions over the years, I found that experiencing India's intense culture provided gateways to self improvement. Thus I undertook meditation classes in Bodgaya and singing lessons in Varanasi, and did many, many tarot readings.
My writing career began when I published an article called 'The Origins of Tarot' (Femspec Magazine, 2007). This was written after research undertaken in Bengal and is now published in my book 'Does Tarot Come From India?'
An interest in psychology saw me spending three years studying counselling, which I now consider to be imperative to improving the skills of a tarot reader. I have published a free book called 'How to Read Tarot with Confidence' using the knowledge I gleaned from my counselling training and years of reading experience.
'How To Read Tarot With Confidence' is designed to make tarot readers aware of their own impact on a reading, and I volunteer suggestions for a code of practice. People are sensitive and visit the tarot reader with a basketful of issues - a good tarot reader needs to have the confidence to deal with any issue and give inspiration!
Turkey is another country that has enchanted me - poised between east and west, it is home to fascinating history and has been influenced by centuries of transient cultural influences.
As an independent traveller I visited this wonderful country in 2006 and almost instantly discovered clues for the origins and development of Tarot. 'Journey of a Tarot Reader' begins with my travel diary and relates how fate spun my story. On my return home I had the luxury of the internet to research many things I had discovered 'out on the road', and thus I was able to expand the book with solid research.
Thus 'Does Tarot come from India?' will appeal to those with a little more in-depth knowledge of Tarot, whilst 'Journey Of A Tarot Reader' can also appeal to novices. I am pleased to be able to present theories from a slightly different angle on the appearance of tarot in Europe.
I have written other books that study tarot including in-depth analysis about The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress and The Emperor. These books will eventually be part of the 'The Edictum of Tarot'- a longterm project unsuitable for ebooks. If you are a publisher interested in this work, please contact me.
(Please note that I have a responsibility to keep my clients information confidential, thus my books are about the meaning of the cards, NOT about my client's personal matters).
As a singer/songwriter I continue to work on music projects - having recorded and co-produced three albums. I am presently working on another.
I released the albums: ‘Limits Of Milkweed’,‘Alter Ego’ and ‘Attitude Is Everything’ in 2008 and 2010 on the Diamond Seeds Label. My latest album, entitled 'Almost Anglo Saxon' is due for release in 2013.
Lyric books to accompany my albums will be available in the future.
