Recipes in the "Gluten-Free, Deliciously!" cookbook series grew out of a lifelong interest in good health and good food. Gillian Olins and her husband, Peter, have spent most of their careers developing novel therapies for diseases in fields including autoimmunity, allergy, cancer, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular diseases. Gillian was born in New York, but spent much of her childhood in the U.K., where she and Peter both earned their PhDs in biochemistry. Since then, they have made their home in the U.S. and currently live in Fort Collins, Colorado, which gives them access to all the outdoor opportunities that come from living right next to the Rocky Mountains.
In 2010, they developed a keen interest in the field of celiac disease and gluten sensitivity which was sparked by family members diagnosed with celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, or wheat allergy.
After reviewing much of the information on these topics readily available on the Internet and other media, they realized that much of it was of poor quality, or even wrong. So, they decided to create the website, Ultimate Gluten Free (http://ultimateglutenfree.com), which launched in February 2011. The site provides carefully researched information about gluten-related health issues, useful resources, a calendar of events, plus a nationwide database of restaurants and other businesses that serve the gluten-free community.
In many ways, biochemistry is rather like cooking, and Gillian and Peter are avid cooks. Most of the meals they prepare at home are reliable family recipes, but occasionally they will experiment with something more adventurous. The recipes in their “Gluten-Free, Deliciously!” book series are clearly written, easy to follow, and have become favorites with many of their family members and friends.

This is a concise book written by a husband and wife team of Ph.D. research scientists. (Yes, advanced education and the "scientific process" DO make a difference.)
The Olins team of authors initially discuss who this book is written for, and then concisely and authoritatively review what gluten is and the problems that consuming gluten can cause. They discuss "gluten-free safety tips," and establishing a gluten-free kitchen." The bulk of the book is comprised of "delicious and nutritious" recipes, complete with attractive pictures.
Personally, when I think of anything "gluten-free," I think of "bland, boring and tasteless," as well as "crumbly," as in the case of baked goods like muffins or brownies. None of these things have ever been particularly appealing to me. And ... with better ingredients and just a bit more guidance, this no longer need be the case.
Accomplished cooks in their own right, the Olins authors tasted and tested all of the many gluten-free recipes on friends and family, both with and without gluten sensitivities. The recipes in this book represent "the best of the best," as determined by their many "taste testers."
As I hear of more of my friends and family members who have become aware of their own gluten sensitivities, one of the most conclusive (and inexpensive!) diagnostic tools that they have used to make this determination is to simply eat gluten-free for a period of time and see if they feel better. Often, they do.
Give this book a try and you might feel better, too.

I have a gluten-free friend coming for dinner so I got this book as wasn't sure what to cook. The information at the front is really helpful as I hadn't realised quite how careful you have to be. I have already tried out a couple of the recipes on my non-gluten free husband and he seems to like them so that bodes well!

A very useful book! It has yummy recipes that will appeal to celiacs and non-celiacs alike plus lots of important information about catering for a gluten-free diet.

Great book. All the recipes are tasty, easy to prepare and suitable for the whole family, including those with gluten intolerance. What a find! Good for every day and entertaining.
