I have recently had a growing fascination for the Arthurian legend and didn’t know where to start with exploring the literature point of view of the tales (versus cinematic/TV). I came upon this short story and decided to first read Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem “The Lady of Shalott.” Afterwards, I dived into this short story, The Silent Isle, and was pleased to notice similarities to the famous poem, but also a creative spin on the tale in a modern setting. Throughout the short story I was highly invested in the main character’s fate and drawn in until the very last sentence!
