The first OFFICE OF THE DEAD book has evolved into a series of six monastic mystery books. Many of the early characters evolve in the later books. Much of the action in each book takes place in other countries such as Hong Kong, India, Tibet, Nepal, Bangkok, and mainland China.

Madam Wu, a Christian psychic, has become an especially loved personage in the last few books. Detective David Gold and Doctor Chantal Fleur come and go throughout the series which adds a thread of warmth and stability to the chaos which sometimes erupts in the adventures.
