Jackie Elam grew up in poverty with her mother and sister, Keesha, without her father. Sharon, at that time, was a struggling single mother with Cerebral Palsy. Growing up poor gave Jackie the drive to do better and be better beyond what her foundational environment had afforded her. Despite the obvious statistical issues that grasped so many of her peers, she vowed to herself that she would get out of the hood, graduate from college, and be successful in life. By 1995 her mother got married, gave birth to her younger sister, Shakiya, and four years later gave birth to her brother, Keenen. This union gave Jackie an opportunity to finally see family structure.
Although her mother had Cerebral Palsy, she witnessed her mother’s strength and dedication to get her Associates degree after giving birth to her fourth child. She did not let her disability stop her from earning her degree and working for a school for five years. Jackie got her drive from her mother!
After Jackie graduated from high school, she attended University of Houston-Downtown and graduated in August 2003 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Information Systems. She graduated with a 3.2 GPA, five tenths away from being cum lade.
During her college years, Jackie modeled in hair shows, runway shows around Houston, did photo shoots in fitness calendars, did her first and only national photo shoot for Blackmen’s Magazine, and had filmed two non-union movies, The Dirty 3rd: The Movie and Dirty Third 2: Home Sweet Home. After she obtained her degree, she knew Houston had nothing else to offer her and immediately began planning her move to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. By November 2003, she moved to Los Angeles by herself. Shortly after arriving in Los Angeles, Jackie filmed her third non-union movie, Decisions, starring Master P and his son Romeo Miller. Five months after moving to Los Angeles, Jackie met her husband Kofi Elam.
After nine months of dating, Kofi and Jackie gave their lives to Jesus and got married. Ten years later, Jackie Elam is a proud wife and mother of two handsome and talented sons, Makhari and Kaleo. Her family is her world and her greatest accomplishment. Although she has not auditioned for a role in a movie since meeting her husband, she received way more blessings by marrying a stuntman and stunt coordinator and having sons who are actors. Jackie and her husband raise their sons to have unmovable faith and trust in the Lord.
Now she is a devout wife, mother, inventor, writer, author, and motivational speaker. She has written her first eBook, Covering Your Child in the Industry Parent First & Always. She is dedicated to sharing positive advice on why her two sons are successful actors and models, and how parents should respond to this Industry. She hopes to one day get her products on shelves and her shows on TV. It will be done!
