I began writing my series of books about Hana Johal Du Rose in 2006 when, as a new immigrant in a strange land, I found myself isolated and seriously out of my depth. It was cathartic and I created a character whose circumstances had once mirrored mine, albeit far worse at times and who had forged a life for herself and her children regardless. Hana gave me great hope.
I was born in 1969 to soldiering parents, moving around England and West Germany until I reached secondary school age. By that time, I had already been to five different primary schools. I always loved to write because I could lose myself in the story and create something far better than I felt was on offer in the 'real' world.
As K T Bowes, I have written six books in the series entitled 'The Hana Du Rose Mysteries' featuring Hana Johal Du Rose. I also write the Troubled series for teens. Artifact and Demons on her Shoulder are UK romance/mysteries and have been best sellers.
One thing I have learned is that being a writer can foster a different kind of isolation, a world of pretence and imaginary friends. My characters are the best and worst of me and I am them.
