Why Me, Lord?
Phil Fethers has had a strange life. Every time he thinks things are finally straightening around to normal, the bottom falls out. It is to the point when he does anytrhing that doesn't hurt him of smack him in the face with something unpleasant he gets very nervous.
There has to be a reason. He’s determined to find it.
This is, I think, the funniest thing I ever wrote.
Color Her Dead
Susan Burch was a strange sort of person. She was an artist, very able, in paints. She used substitute colors, getting some amazing results. It was a talent she had noticed as a child. She would change tones and hues in all of a painting.
She had a commission in Isla Tormenta, a small lush Caribbean island off the coast of Nicaragua. A wealthy man there wanted his girlfriends and their friends painted, using the technique.
He had a wife and daughter. They were, to understate it, not amused.
Then, the murders....
A Vacation in Hell
Max Reede was warned about going to Hell Island, particularly about El Diablo Mountain. He said he always found these kinds of places were just stories to scare gullible people. It would be a cheap two weeks in a place that wasn’t overrun with tourists. Voodoo and Hoodoo were silly superstitions. He doesn’t have a superstitious bone in his body.
Then how do you explain this?
The Face in the Sunset
Andy Smart was on the terrace of the Royal Conch Hotel at Golden Bay, Isla Fortuna, talking with a girl he met that afternoon, watching the sunset. For a few seconds there was a face formed in the clouds. The girl showed shock and fear.
“What...? What’s wrong?” Andy asked.
“That’s Rick!” she cried.
“It’s a cloud formation,” Andy argued. “It just happens to look like someone you know.”
The formation had moved. It was now just a slightly colorful sunset.
“Your name might be Smart, but you’re not very!” she replied, sarcastically.
Then, he gets tangled up in voodoo and curses.
The Secret of Mud Lake
What was the secret of Mud Lake? That there was a prehistoric monster there was ludicrous, but this was the seventh year in a row where someone ended up dead in that lake. Why? Almost no one went there.
Professor Knight was determined to learn the secret of mud lake.
Would there be more bodies before anyone learned? Would Knight learn the secret – the hard way?
