Short description

Finally! A social media strategy book for the small business. Here’s a description of the forces driving social media, a description of its vocabulary and tools, quantitative and qualitative ways to measure a campaign’s effectiveness, and simple strategies to help you get started.

Extended description

“Social” is a critical aspect of any small business strategy. The problem is that many resources that discuss social media are written from the perspective of its tools and do not necessarily cover useful business strategies. Bogged-down in complex technical discussions, small business managers end up turning away from social media because they simply don’t see how it applies to their business, or, don’t understand how it’ll provide any real value to their customers.

Sure, many business managers would agree that social media seems valuable, but how do you measure its benefits? Without the technical mumbo-jumbo, how does it contribute to competitive advantage? What are the driving forces behind social media? What are some practical ways to leverage social media to extend value to customers? Are there financial returns? Is there a planning process to running a social media campaign? How can a small business start using social media effectively tomorrow?

With all the hype these days about social media, it's hard to separate the truths from the myths. If you are in business, if you own or plan to start a business, then you no doubt have questions about what it can do for you. Russell has avoided the all too typical geek speak, and explains things in a clear and well researched book. He answers the questions we all have: "What's in it for me? Why should I use it? What is the return on my investment?"

Russell goes on to explain the various tools available, what they do and how they work. He even provides a template to build your own program and plan, then shows basic examples on how to use it. He hasn't missed the most critical component of social media and that's the relationships we can build and develop to support our business efforts. Simple Social Media is a must read if you want to understand what social media can do for you and how to get started properly.
