About Alida Winternheimer

Alida has been writing since she was a small child. Possibly the earliest surviving example is a short story titled, “Henry Humbug.” Alida always believed that she was six when she wrote and illustrated the story in her Nana’s pink Las Vegas rambler. However, the story was recently recovered from her parents’ guest bedroom closet with a box of old report cards and art projects. The story is dated. Turns out Alida was eight. Memory is a tricky thing, and it’s good she writes fiction.

In 2013, two of Alida’s stories were nominated for the Pushcart Prize. The jury is still out on those, so to speak. But as everyone knows, just to be nominated is an honor. And it really is in this case! Water~Stone Review nominated “The Herd,” and Storm Cellar Quarterly nominated “Wild Animal." Alida’s stories have also appeared in Midwestern Gothic, Melusine, Confluence, and other journals.

Alida is a writer, teacher, and editor in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. She has over a decade of teaching experience, and loves sharing her passions with others, whether it’s how to move through a sun salutation or how to bring a character to life. You can hire her as a writing coach or editor, or take one of her writing classes through the Hennepin County Library, Community Education, and other venues.
