About Joe Zito

I began 'reading' when I was 32. I compare my 'later in life hobby' to not liking a certain type of food when you were a kid, but then as an adult you suddenly realize it's not so bad and you love it. I started writing in 2011. Living in Indiana, I find its scenery influential in what I write about; old barns, flat open farm land, old country dirt roads, trees, and all the hundreds of cornfields. I love that kind of stuff and I find there is a certain kind of gothic like quality about Indiana. Movies, art and music also play a part in my writing. Horror and heavy metal obviously are an influence but I find 70's exploitation and B horror films, 70's culture and classic rock, weird and strange art, artsy films to be inspiring as well. My stories are meant to be read and enjoyed. That's why everything I put on here will be for free.To me its about art and storytelling and making the reader 'feel' something; not about making money.
The point of doing it (other than I just like to write weird and creepy stuff) is to entertain the reader and hopefully ruin their day because they read something horrific in one of my stories.

Not much story but tons of graphic violence and gore,.

A reasonably rounded short story which manages to have a beginning, a middle and an end within its limited word count. There's very little description in it except for aspects which are designed to shock or revolt the reader, so these passages came across as rather over the top. Cold-blooded murder just to preserve the secret of an affair seemed a bit far-fetched too. There's potential in this story but it's a little too rough around the edges and ham-fisted in its attempts to convey horror. It could have done with more subtlety and a little more depth to the characters.
