Great things were expected of Jim Hunt, and he clearly expected them for himself. He needed the bigger jet, the faster car and the bigger home.
He needed to live the life full of rich men’s toys. With that mindset began a series of decisions leading to a thirty year downfall emanating in his arrest as part of a conspiracy to commit a massive Ponzi scheme. The victims’ losses totaled more than $400 Million, most of which was revealed to be their respective life savings.
Who could have predicted back then that this criminal enterprise would be one of the precipitating factors that plunged our country into its current financial crisis? Who could have imagined the depth of the conspiracy, and the length to which these men would go to protect their empire?
Ringing the Bell will entertain you with suspense, treachery and even some humorous situations.
Most importantly, though, you will appreciate the social and economic statement about the greed and criminal behavior that preceded our current economic crisis.
What makes this novel unique is that the story, plots and character arcs are based mainly upon true events. The author lived this story and the life of Roberto Gomes, which grants to the reader an exclusive voice and inside perspective into not only the types of criminal enterprises that rocked the financial world, but also a fresh and new voice into the life of a young attorney
Roberto Gomes, a former mixed martial arts fighter who suffers a career ending injury, serves as the main character. Fortunately, he also graduated law school recently, and starts his career at a sleazy personal injury firm in Sacramento.
However, through a series of events, he lands his dream job with the Sacramento satellite office of a major international law firm. One of his first assignments with his new firm requires that he be put on the file with a treacherous client. He not only has to adjust to life at a big firm, with all of those trials and tribulations, but he also must deal with the danger signs and red flags he sees with the client.
A highly influential partner in the firm’s prestigious Silicon Valley office befriends the main character. The partner devises a corporate espionage plan in the Sacramento office that places the young associate in the center of a plot to uncover the fraud at that office.
Roberto is torn personally because he is really bonding with the Sacramento partner, who has taken him under his wing. But, he knows the client is engaging in fraudulent behavior. As a result, he needs the support of the Silicon Valley partner at the expense of his relationship with the Sacramento partner, Jim Hunt.
The novel exhibits a fast pace, excellent character development and is reminiscent of classic tales of greed on Wall Street.
