Why Fathers? Why did God create them? What was He thinking? How did He expect them to work, to do their job? Has fatherhood ever worked? Is it working today?
Fathers are central to God's plan for the human family. This book discusses today's estrangement of fathers-physically, emotionally, spiritually-and points to constructive solutions that men in all walks of life may adopt. More
This book speaks primarily to men. Some readers might find it a bit irksome that most references are to ‘him’ even when we are speaking of children. It is a man’s story, seen from one man’s eyes. But this is by no means intended to minimize the role and importance of the mother in the life of a child, boy or girl, or to suggest that absent mothers are not a cause of difficulties in a child’s life. A companion volume, Absent Mothers, may have to be written, hopefully by one more qualified to give the woman’s story than I am.
I have tried to tie all the major arguments presented in this book to the bedrock of scripture, on which foundation I believe everything must stand. I trust I have succeeded in this.
My hope is that the book can serve as a study tool for men’s groups, provoking thought on difficult subjects, stirring responses in individual hearts and prompting action and change to make our world a saner, better and more sacred human habitat.
