Exploring Chemistry Stage 2 is organised around six main areas of content: Macroscopic properties of matter; Atomic structure and bonding; Chemical reactions; Acids and bases; Oxidation and reduction; and Organic chemistry. Each content area is highlighted in a different colour to help you to find your way around the book.
There is one main context passage that introduces each content area. This is supported with smaller context descriptions to help highlight the applications of chemistry in the major context area for 2A units (Chemistry in and around the home) and 2B units (Chemistry and the environment). This section also contains a career profile.
Investigating in chemistry
This component of the resource contains 29 experiments and 17 investigations helping with the exploration and communication of chemical understandings through the investigative processes. They represent opportunities to do experiments and to plan and conduct investigations, to analyse the data collected and to evaluate investigation plans, processes and findings.
Problem solving and quantities in chemistry
This component of the resource contains 24 problem sets requiring the application and understanding of problem-solving techniques to quantitative problems in a chemical context.
Chemistry in action
This component of the resource contains numerous research investigations and extended answer questions requiring an understanding of chemistry and its applications, particularly the role of chemistry in biological, environmental and industrial processes.”
